“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
(Mark 16:15-16 KJV)
The Gospel means good news. Jesus told the church to go and preach the Gospel in all the world. This is the work of evangelism. It is the area of Christian ministry that primarily deals with saving lost souls, equipping the church to do so, and adding new souls to the church.
“Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”
(Acts 2:47)
Heaven is real, and hell is real, and Jesus is coming back soon, so it is important for the church to do it. There are a variety of ways: some preach; some hand out tracts; some use signage; some run revivals or missions in tents or buildings; some use online sites and media, some set up street stalls or book tables. The important thing is that the church does it—many won’t! Time is short, lost souls are dying, the battle is on, now is the time! We should not be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ because it is the only message that truly saves the soul.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
(Romans 1:16)
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
(Acts 4:12)
Paul said to Timothy,
“But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.”
(2 Timothy 4:5)
