How to Become a Christian

Life-Changing
You must be ready to change your life. You must repent and commit to a new life in Christ, leaving the old life behind. You must believe that Jesus Christ is the true Saviour, that He died on the cross for all our sins, and that He rose from the dead on the third day. Becoming a Christian is life-changing in this life and life-changing in the next, where it will mean the difference between heaven and hell.

The Step
So, how do you take the step? Well, it’s a step of faith. Does God want you to? Oh yes, He does. Repent and believe the Gospel is what Jesus said (Mark 1:15). He is waiting, and welcomes all who come to Him (John 6:37). The format of how you do it is not the important thing but your seriousness about taking the step. You need to be serious, sincere, and determined. You must be genuine and repentant in your heart.

Prayer
You could pray in your own words or you could read a sinner’s prayer, or someone could help you by leading you in a prayer. You could pray on your own, or do it with someone else, or with a group at church. You could do it in your room, at the front of a church, or with a pastor. You could pray on your knees or standing up. The important thing is that you mean it and believe it!

Faith
When you take the step, you are asking God for His forgiveness. Believe that He will forgive you. You are asking God to save you—believe that He will. You are asking Christ to come into your life and change you—believe that He will. You are asking Him to receive your repentance and your new commitment to Him—believe He will receive that commitment.

Follow Through
Now, it’s important to follow through on that commitment. It must be a daily walk of following Christ. He will lead and guide you. Finding a good Bible-believing church, praying, and reading the Bible is so important. You will also want to get baptised according to Jesus’ commandment (Mark 16:16).
